Why reduce costs

Our Story

Based in Waterford city, Reduce Costs, is the husband and wife team of Mick Coghlan and Claire Mooney.

ReduceCosts was founded by Claire’s father Tony in 2012. While working as a sales agent for an electricity supplier, he identified a better way to help local businesses with managing energy costs by setting himself up as an independent consultant who could offer them solutions from multiple suppliers and return to them year after year to review.

Since then, we have grown to help over 400 businesses in the South East of Ireland. We work with businesses of all sizes from the local corner shop to manufacturing enterprises to large hotels and entertainment venues.

Following Tony’s retirement, Claire and Mick continue navigating the company into the future. We aim to maintain the same great service to our existing customers as Tony has done for years and to bring our expertise to new clients in the future.

Meet the team

Claire Mooney

After years of experience in customer service and operations roles, Claire joined ReduceCosts in April 2022. As ReduceCosts primary consultant, Claire’s role is to review clients’ current rates and advise of the options available to them. Claire enjoys the balance of her role, spending time with clients and in the office keeps her week varied and interesting.

Mick Coghlan

Mick joined ReduceCosts in January 2020 as the first step towards Tony’s retirement plan. In that time, he has helped customers navigate their energy costs through a global pandemic and an energy crisis. Mick’s role in the company is to manage the administration and financial side of the business.
